Who we are

The Department of Communication and Marketing is responsible to promote and market the University both internally and externally to increase recruitment, retention, engagement and giving.

The department is responsible for advising on and implementing internal and external communications activity and community and government relations; organizing major University events; media relations and University news; providing general information about the University to the public; producing a wide range of publications, including the monthly news update (link to the monthly newsletter) and managing the content of the top levels of the University website.

The Department is also responsible for developing public understanding of the aims and activities of the University, and for promoting effective internal communication in a large and dispersed institutional structure.

Objectives

  • Coordinate all University matters pertaining to communication and marketing
  • Assist in guiding protocol issues at various events that involve the University
  • Promote the University image inside and outside the University and the Country through provision of timely proper information.

Specific Objectives

  • Monitor media information and respond to various queries regarding the University Media we mean social, electronic, and print and others.
  • Prepare and air/ disseminate informative and educative media programmes as stipulated in item “5 section C” of the Charter. Media, means electronic, print, website and others
  • Prepare fliers, newsletters and such other publications for disseminating information.
  • Organize Press Conferences supported by Press Releases for important issues that require public awareness.   Example of such big issues is the new structure of the University and its implementation.
  • Collaborating with the Website Coordinator for updating the University Website
  • Guide people visiting the University with various intentions.
  • Organize specific visits to some secondary schools to sensitize female girls to undertake SUA degree programmes.

Ethics:  Staff conduct shall be regulated by ethics so as to provide high quality communication and marketing services as stipulated in the SUA Charter, University and national codes of conduct.

Efficiency:  The staff shall conduct themselves to delivery of high quality services in time and at the most cost effective manner.

What we do

The Communication and Marketing Office applies planning expertise and attention to detail in order to ensure that each event is of a high standard, and that all objectives are met. We aim to create an experience of the University that leaves a lasting and memorable impression in the minds of every attendee and we strive to promote an understanding of the University.

The range of events we organize is diverse. Please note, the Unit organize events on behalf of the University such as Ceremonial Events; Lecture series; Visit by Heads of state, Parliamentarians, Government Leaders, Ambassadors and Donors; Events for buildings such as inaugurations; and other Events Include those on behalf of the Vice Chancellor.
